Shirley Ryan AbilityLab Summer Volunteer Experience Application

This experience is only offered to college students who attend college outside the Chicagoland area, who would not otherwise have an opportunity to volunteer during the non-summer months. Students enrolled in colleges within 50 miles of Chicago 60611 are not eligible to apply (DePaul, Northwestern, UIC, Loyola, Rush, etc.).
The Shirley Ryan Abilitylab Summer Volunteer Experience requires a 100-hour service commitment; hours to be completed over the 10-12 week duration starting May/June through August. For example, with a start date of June 2 and end date of August 8, you would need to work 3-4 shifts per week (9-12 hours per week) to complete 100 hours. Shifts are typically three hour duration. Times are 9am-12pm, 1-4pm, 3-5:30pm, and 5:30-8pm Monday-Friday Full day option: 9am-12pm (am shift), 12-1pm lunch break, 1-4pm (pm shift) totals 6 hours Additionally, we will have occassional events such as adaptive sports tournaments, fundraising events, and outpatient day camps (Times TBD). Please be aware, if you do not complete the 100-hour committment, you will not succes fully complete the Summer Volunteer Experience program.

In order to be eligible to volunteer, there are onboarding requirements that must be satisfied.
-Proof of vaccination/titer test for:
-MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
-Varicella
-Proof of negative TB test
-Ability to pass a criminal background check
-Completion of online competencies and trainings
-Attendance at orienation on first day
In order to satisfy the TB testing requirement, SRA Lab offers free blood draw TB testing onsite to those who otherwise are unable to get TB testing completed on their own. The test can take place on your first day.
We are offering three program start dates. The first day of the program will be an orientation. Please pick two dates that work for you.
