Commitment

The Volunteer Program requires a 100-hour commitment with a once a week, 3-4 hour shift. We ask for a consistent shift commitment in order to provide the best possible care for our patients. The 100-hour committment needs to be completed over the course of your "Volunteer lifetime." For some, this is a few months and for others this is a few years; we just ask that before you end your volunteer experience with the Shirley Ryan Abilitylab that you've completed 100+ hours.

Inpatient Care

Please note former inpatients of Shirley Ryan Abilitylab may apply to volunteer six months post-discharge from inpatient services.

Next Steps

Submit required medical documents: MMR, Varicella, proof of TB immunity (recent; within 90 days of application), and seasonal flu shot during flu season.
Participate in a phone interview if requested
Submit reference form.
Complete online trainings
Complete background check if over 18 years of age
Attend an in-person orientation. These are offered 5-6 times per month
